AMERICAN ELM

That feeling when you realize that you've lost photos ... *queue ugly cry now* ...

expounding in... 3...2...1...

I fell in love with Central Park. I fell in love with all the trees, 'The Mall', the great lawn, the paths, the walking, the pond, the people watching, oh! the people watching! We rented bicycles and rode the entire park one day after making a picniq and sitting on the rocks and it was honestly one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done in all my life. Ever. I waited till a beyond beautiful and warm sunny day to bust out my camera and photograph The Mall which happened to also be the day we were bicycling around.

Welp, in the midst of crazy memory card madness upon returning home, my card with not only our bicycling utopia of a day, but with our visit to the Empire State building, Brooklyn {one of the many trips}, The Met {oh, queue more crying with the thought of the photos from The Met being lost...} well the devilish little bugger is MIA. Either it is MIA OR in a shear moment of total insanity I mistakingly thought I had backed it up when I had not and formatted the actual card. Either way, I'm sitting here at my desk at 6pm on a Monday evening crying like a little girl who's pet cat just died.  Yes, I sat down to write a blog post on the excitement of getting to return to NYC next month and wanted to share a photo from May's trip and THAT my friends is when my world crumbled. Yes, I am being dramatic and yes I am just going to wallow in this. Words can not express the joy that Nicholas and I shared during our visit to the Met and to The Mall and on our bicycle ride and at the Empire State building; we haven't had that much fun a very, very long time. Just typing this is making the tears fall like a drippy faucet, no, a flat out running faucet... Those photos were so important and they are totally and completely gone. Vanished. Good heavens it's truly devastating! Utterly and completely saddening.

With tears still soiling my cheeks I'll be thankful that I took little hipstamatic 'Instagrams' every day of our trip and too of the occasions where I've happened to now lose the larger format copies on that bogus memory card. I'll also be glad that I also took a few polaroids on the same occasions so at least I've got those. Okay, okay, pulling out the Polaroids is making it a little better. Okay, a lot better. But still, tell me I am not the only photographer to mis-catelogue or accidentally erase or delete important photos? I'm not, right? Right?!?

Meanwhile, I've got the above photo that I took one day in Central Park. I absolutely adored all the American Elm trees and for that matter all the bountiful, beautiful, old trees that confettied the acres of middle city land. I loved all the literal and figurative juxtaposition in the above photo. A lot. And I suppose now I love the darn thing even more knowing it just tripled it's value to me... It's a stinkin good thing that the photos I've got I love a whole lot...

I'm going to go have wine now...

... and NO I've never lost wedding photos.

... although yes, I once thought that I had been shooting with my *loaded* Minolta when indeed I had forgot to put film in ...
